Cruise the Balearics in style! Spain. Alcudia, Mallorca. Come and join this mature syndicate, of like-minded and passionate individuals, who only want one thing… to have the best boat for cruising the waters of the Balearics, whilst remaining affordable.
Over 150,000 euros spent on upgrades and refurbs in 2023/24. 1/8th Share in a 2001 Azimut 58 for sale in Port d’Alcudia. Each 1/8th share gives the new shareholder 6 weeks use per year with a yearly contribution to the maintenance, mooring and insurance for £650.00 per calendar month.
Alcudia is the port of choice as there are a number of lovely bays nearby for swimming and some easy boating, there is also a large variety of restaurants and bars only a stone’s throw away from the mooring. The yacht was built in 2001, she has never been chartered or had any heavy use. Engine hours are under 2000, which is very light use for the age of the boat.
The latest Raymarine navigation and autopilot system are fully integrated and repeated on the bridge and stern. Plumbing, electrics and mechanics are all in good working order and have been regularly serviced. She’s good to go and great fun.
She has had a substantial refit in 2023 including both engines with virtually all new parts, bimini, wall linings, ceiling linings, carpets, polished super structure etc. In 2024 we have added a stern thruster, longer and new mooring chain and additional cosmetic work to the interior, which has given it a superior control for mooring plus a beautiful modern look and feel to the internal space.
She has 3 cabins – two double bedrooms, each with a full en-suite bathroom with toilet and shower, and one twin room with a separate bathroom, again with a toilet and shower. Plus there is a crew cabin, which is generally used for storage. The air conditioning in all the cabins and saloon works well. The cabins are a good size and it is no squeeze for 6 adults to live very comfortably for weeks at a time. There is a main saloon, galley kitchen with hob, microwave, coffee maker, full sized fridge freezer, deck seating with table, flybridge seating, sunbathing area on the flybridge and two large sunbathing bow cushions. There is also a brand-new tender to use when at anchor to go ashore.
At the time of writing we are in the process of sourcing a jet-ski, which will be moored in a pontoon a stone’s throw away. This is included in the advertised price and will not affect the monthly costs. To see further details of the massive refurbishment, please see “Owners comments”. This boat suits a group of adults for many days or a family. This boat has had the best of upgrades to make it like new, and yet it represents the best value share in Majorca, and probably the Med. Highly recommended.

Freedom’s owners’ Comments:
This mature, well-run and now established syndicate has been formed with a great bunch of individuals who enjoy, care and maintain the boat. The syndicate has a Boat Manager and Treasurer with each member paying £750 every calendar month (from June 2024) into a syndicate account. This covers mooring costs, insurance, weekly cleaning/laundry and many maintenance costs.
As of 2024, Freedom is like a new boat. Over 150,000 euros has been spent on her and no expense has been spared. 44,000 euros alone has been spent on a complete refurbishment of both engines, with mostly new parts, plus a re-spray. These MTUs have been checked out by MTU engineers and given the thumbs up.
A brand new SUR rib with 20hp Yamaha has been added to the inventory, and this little thing will take several people to and from the boat in comfort and at speed! We also have a superb SeaDoo jetski, mooed opposite Freedom, which is at no extra monthly cost.
A new bimini has been added, which ensures you can be shaded on the flybridge, and new carpets are already down, adding to the luxury. All the leather seats in the saloon have been cleaned and this area is as good as any luxury flat. New wall and ceiling linings add to the feel of opulence.
A new anchor, windlass and chain is another recent addition. So anchoring is now easy, meaning most bays are accessible, and for those that are a bit tight you have the rib that will take you ashore. In other words, this is a go anywhere boat, but you can go anywhere in luxury. To be a proper ‘live aboard’ boat in the Med it must have air con, and this is throughout the boat and has also been refurbished and well maintained.
There have been many additional spends on this boat – window handles, hatches, cutlery, kitchen ware, towels, blinds etc, much of it monogrammed, so Freedom really does look like a millionaire’s playground! Even our bedding has been monogrammed! We have also recently purchased a paddleboard and an inflatable doughnut for the Rib.
To the outside the whole structure has been polished, with the underside antifouled and everything cleaned. It really looks like new. Alongside all this we have a secure storage unit (just yards from the boat) that can house water toys as well as clothes/swim gear, so you don’t have to pack everything again each time you come. With a laundry even closer to the boat, you can have freshly washed and ironed clothes very quickly. Next to the laundry is a superb wash facility for men and women, so if you’re in the marina and don’t want to use the boat’s excellent heads, a two- minute walk will be all you need to do to get to these facilities. You can only enter with your security card (a credit card sized item that allows you through all the secure gates inside the marina) of which I have two (with a spare on the boat).
As you can see, Freedom is a fantastic boat in which to explore the island or use as a floating apartment, and Alcudia – a very modern marina – is an excellent base. The boat has so many new parts or upgraded areas, it looks like new, as the photos will attest. As far as boat-share boats go, I can confidently state it’s the best quality, best value, best run and best kept boat in Majorca, and probably the Med. Most of us use Freedom for pottering around the island, finding quiet bays to moor up and experience tranquillity. It is a great base to explore the island of Majorca or even spread your wings and head to Ibiza. It just presents so many options and a different type of holiday experience.
The great thing about Freedom is you can live like a wealthy boat owner, for a fraction of the cost and worry, and probably use it as much as if you owned it outright!
The boat is lifted out of the water in February for a 4 week period for annual maintenance activities ahead of the next season leaving 6 weeks for each member to enjoy.
The change over day is Thursdays when the syndicate member vacates the boat by 10am. The boat is then cleaned throughout and clean linen and towels are provided to each cabin ready for the next member who will arrive by 4pm.
We have an annual AGM where all members meet in the UK, usually around October to agree the following years allocations and any maintenance activities planned. It is also a good time to catch up face to face with the fellow syndicate members although we do have an active WhatsApp group that you will be part of.
The syndicate agreement has been professionally produced and sets out the rules for the syndicate so it’s fair for each member and the allocations are done in a way that is fair ensuring everyone has their preferred weeks throughout the year. You will be required to sign up to the agreement on purchase of the share
My remaining allocations for 2024 are: June 20 th – June 27th September 26 th – October 3 rd November 7 th – November 14 th December 12 th – December 19th I can meet anyone during the above allocations. If this doesn’t suit, I can arrange someone to meet you and show you around the boat. We insist that every potential new member has to meet one of our other share holders, so that we can be sure you’ll be a good fit for the others. This is standard practice when buying any boat share.
Upon completion of the sale, you will be named on the UK Small Ships Register as an owner of Freedom along with the other members. The boat is UK Registered on the MCA Part 3 Small Ships Register. A Bill of Sale will be provided declaring your share along with a copy of the SSR certificate which is also visible online.
In order to sail Freedom you must have at least day skipper certification, then it is mandatory that you have a couple of days training with a local skipper. We also have good relationships with a number of local captains should you wish to hire one and sit back and relax on your own yacht.
If you’re inexperienced it is an insurance requirement to have a captain on board for the first year. However, experienced motor boaters or sailors will not need this, as most of our syndicate members have found. I did have to have a captain for my first year, but simply travelled to and from Alcudia marina and, when anchoring in a bay or harbour or marina, left the captain on board while my wife and I explored the town/village/bay/beach. We may well have continued with this, as it was so relaxing (and I could have a drink or three!).
With all of the above positive news, there is one slight issue that, in the interests of honesty, I must inform you about – The boat does have some osmosis, but this has been deemed minor and easily remedied. In 2024, at the end of the season, Freedom will leave the water and be left to dry out. The cost of this has already been paid for! It means that for the new share holder, they’ll be no surprises!
A change in family circumstance means I am selling. But I’ll be back, hopefully in a few short years, looking for another syndicate share!
